Beatriz Serrano Bertos

Apart from playing the standard repertoire and chamber music with her regular duo partner Dimitri van Halderen, cellist Beatriz Serrano Bertos enjoys to participate in a wide range of different ensembles. She plays in duo format with tango accordionist David M. García Serrano as well as classical violinist Karolina Michalska. As if this would not provide enough musical variety, she also recorded with the rock group “Eternal Cry” and is a member of the traditional music group “Unos Tamborinos Muy Gentiles”, with whom she recently recorded a CD with instrumental folk music from the community of Castilla y León, a project led by ethnomusicologist Miguel Manzano.

She started studying the cello in the Professional Conservatory in Elche and went on to study with Francisco Pastor Sempere at the Superior Conservatory of Alicante. After graduation she continued her studies in The Hague (the Netherlands) with Marien van Staalen.

In Holland she met the guitarist Dimitri van Halderen. Their mutual interest in chamber music performance led to the formation of their current duo. Together they have performed in theatres in the Netherlands and Spain, as well as participating in various interdisciplinary projects in festivals of art and literature.

She is a dedicated teacher, enjoying above all working with young musicians and introducing them to the possibilities of their instrument and ensemble playing. She holds teaching positions in the Music School of Ciudad Rodrigo and in the Colegio “Antonio Machado” in Salamanca, and coaches the cello section in the Youth Orchestra of Salamanca.
